QDOBA Mexican Eats, a casual restaurant chain, opened the first week of January along Division Road in Union Square.
The newest Starbucks location in Windsor opened their doors January 10th in the Roundhouse Centre. The location features a drive thru and is the only Windsor Starbucks location to have “Nitro Cold Brew,” a nitrogen-infused specialty drink.
Windsor’s first Five Guys locations opened their doors on January 15th. The long-awaited chain casual restaurant offers locals their hand crafted burgers and fries, as well as their shakes, sandwiches and hot dogs. Five Guys cooks their fresh-cut potatoes for fries in pure, no-cholesterol, 100% peanut oil, and posts each day where the potatoes that are being used are from.
The larger Lululemon Windsor location opened at the end of January at Devonshire Mall. The store features much more stock than the previous seasonal location, and boasts being ‘Windsor-focused,’ featuring local brand ambassadors and art sourced locally.
The GoodLife Fitness location at Devonshire Mall closed at the end of February. It was replaced with a Fit4Less.
Payless closed all of its Canadian stores. They had 248 stores in Canada including three in Windsor at Devonshire Mall, Tecumseh Mall and on Dougall.
STK Thrift Store closed at the end of March. The store had been open for ten years starting out on Ottawa Street and moving to 3990 Tecumseh Road East at the corner of George in November 2014.
HBC announced in February they were closing all Home Outfitters stores in Canada including the one in Windsor on Walker Road. In total they had 37 stores.
Green Earth announced in March the closing of all their locations including Devonshire Mall. Green Earth has been Canadian owned and operated since 1990 and got its start in Windsor.
Teppermans celebrated the grand reopening of their Windsor store after rebranding their look and undertaking interior and exterior renovation work on March 28th. The 94-year-old, family owned business sells home furniture, appliance, mattress and electronics.
Pressure Drop, a new boutique, café, and bar opened up in Ford City in May. The shop features both men’s and women’s clothing, influenced by “the owners’ love for the carefree, coastal lifestyle.”
Gourmet hot dogs arrived to Windsor with DoggyStyle officially opening their doors in May. The restaurant features gourmet and unique hot dogs, with toppings varying from bacon to peanut butter.
Habitat for Humanity celebrated the grand opening of their new, much larger ReStore location at the end of May. The location is one of the largest ReStore locations in Canada at over 22,000 square feet.
A new Le Chateau Outlet opened at Windsor Crossing at the start of June. It opened in the old Adidas unit, at the main entrance. It closed a month later.
Fionn MacCool’s opened their doors in June at the new Four Points by Sheraton at 430 Ouellette Avenue. The Fionn’s Pub history dates back to 1996 when the first pub opened its doors in Hamilton. The Windsor location is their 43rd.
Four Points by Sheraton opened in Downtown Windsor in June. Previously known as the Sunbridge Hotel and before that the Holiday Inn, the hotel offers 147 spacious guest rooms, over 1,900 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, a 24-hour fitness center, indoor pool and sun deck, guest laundry, lobby pantry, business center and fast and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
Levi’s opened their doors at the Windsor Crossing Premium Outlets in August.
Code Ninja’s first Canadian centre opened their doors in Windsor’s East Side in September. Children aged 7-14 can be signed up at Code Ninjas to learn computer coding and STEM education. The game-based curriculum is fun and interactive, so that children can enjoy what they are learning while gaining skills at the same time.
In September, Forever 21 announced they were closing all of their Canadian stores. The company was granted protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. They store at Devonshire Mall opened in October 2015.
Local cafe Anchor Coffee House opened their third location in Devonshire Mall in October. The location features the cafe’s signature drinks and baked goods. Patrons are able to enjoy coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, bagels, a variety of cookies, and much more specialty and freshly made items.
Giant Tiger’s newest store in Windsor opened in the former Sears store on Legacy Park Drive in November.
American restaurant chain Chick-fil-a is planning to open a location in Windsor according to a site plan released to city council members and the public on Friday November 29th. The proposed restaurant will be located at 3060 Howard, just north of The Keg.
Family Video on Tecumseh Road East and Hall Avenue announced its closing on December 29th. The store first opened back in February 2012.
