Four Spitfires Nominated For League Awards

Three Spitfire players along with the club’s head coach have been nominated for Ontario Hockey League awards.
Christian Fischer is the club’s nominee for the Red Tilson Award, given to the league’s most valauble player. Fischer, 19, topped the club in scoring with 40 goals and 50 assists in his first OHL season.
Michael DiPietro is up for Rookie of the Year honours. The 16-year-old, Amherstburg native posted 16 wins, a .912 save percentage and a 2.45 goals against average in 29 games played.
Mikhail Sergachev is nominated as the league’s top defenceman. The 17-year-old, projected Top-10 pick in this summer’s NHL Draft in Buffalo had 57 points in 67 games. His 17 goals was tops among all OHL blueliners.
Head Coach Rocky Thompson has been nominated for Ontario Hockey League Coach of the Year. Thompson helped the Spitfires to a 35-point turnaround, recording 40 wins in his first season behind the bench.
This year’s OHL awards will be handed out in a ceremony June 7th in Toronto.
