The 2016 Windsor-Essex Great Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics Competition filled the St. Denis Centre Saturday with students, mentors, spectators, robots and excitement. This is the largest FIRST competition in Canada, with 1500 students participating.
52 teams formed of high school students have been working since January to create their robots for this competition, where their robots play a version of capture the flag that is called Stronghold. Teams are formed from high schools near and far, with local teams as well as teams from as far away as Poland participating. An arena was set up as well as a “pit” area where teams go for fixing their robots and practice for competing.
Teams are competing to qualify for a spot in the world championship games in St. Louis, Missouri.
