The Amherstburg Fire Department is looking for volunteer firefighters.
Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old, be a resident of Amherstburg living within the boundaries of Station 1, 2 or 3 response areas, possess a minimum Grade 12 education, and possess a valid Class G driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record.
You must obtain or be willing to obtain a Class DZ driver’s licence, at the applicant’s expense, in order to be eligible to be selected for a Volunteer Firefighter position. Preference will be given to successful applicants with a Class DZ licence.
Applicants are required to obtain a medical note from their general practitioner, at the applicant’s expense, attesting the applicant is fit to participate in the agility test as part of the recruitment process. Applicants must have excellent communication and problem solving skills along with the ability to learn and perform the various methods and techniques used in firefighting and rescue.
A mandatory orientation session, during the second or third week in September, will be provided to applicants to review the requirements, the competition, the auxiliary process, and the selection process to become a Volunteer Firefighter.
