Open Air Ping Pong Comes To Kiwanis Park

A new two-ton concrete ping pong table now sits in Kiwanis Park.

Former Windsor residents Dianne and Jim Moore donated the new table in honour of Dianne’s late father, Bill Bowen, who taught her to how to play the game.

Dianne is the driving force behind “Outdoor Ping Pong Tables for Parks,” an initiative of the Rotary Club of Toronto-Forest Hill. In Toronto, more than 75 concrete tables have been installed in parks and public places in hopes of providing a positive outlet for the energy of youth, as well as unique opportunities for physical exercise for persons of all ages.

Another table has been shipped to France where it was recently installed in a memorial park as part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge where Canadian soldiers distinguished themselves. The Vimy table has a local connection in that Farrow Ltd of Windsor handled all the logistics for shipping and customs clearance to deliver the table to its final destination in France.

The concrete ping pong tables are regulation size, with a smooth playing surface, rugged steel net and spherical concrete legs. They are virtually indestructible, easy to maintain and designed to stand up to Canada’s winter climate and to the wear and tear inevitable in a public park.
