Women Leading the Way in Windsor-Essex is made up of women from all different professions and walks of life, and it’s looking to expand its roster. Its members focus their efforts on supporting kids, families and women.

The group officially launched at a sold-out event held at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts on Wednesday, May 4th, 2016. Attendees were treated to keynote speaker Chantal Vallée, Head Coach of the Windsor Lancers basketball team, who shared her personal story of success and the women who inspire her. Vallée led her university team to five straight National titles, and has been recognized nationally for her coaching and teaching abilities.

“I would like to personally thank everyone who has come on board to launch this initiative,” says Lorraine Goddard, CEO of United Way. “Women Leading the Way has brought new energy to United Way. With such a diverse and talented group of women at the table, we can expand our ability to affect real, positive change in Windsor and Essex County.”

So far the group’s 22 members have raised $60 thousand dollars, but it’s about more than money. Members’ skills and knowledge are put to use to causes that are important to them, and they’re also given the opportunity to learn about the needs that exist in the community. United Way’s research provides the knowledge and confidence that the group’s efforts will have the desired impact. Women have a unique approach to giving and a desire to ‘move the needle’ on important issues.
