Local Expert Blog: How You Can Celebrate Earth Day At Work

Earth Day, which occurs every year on April 22, is celebrated by 193 countries worldwide. While discussions around how best to protect Mother Earth should happen every day, there is nothing wrong with putting a little extra emphasis on being green this month.

Here are four ways you and your team can celebrate onsite or remotely.

Tree Planting

Trees are a fundamental part of many ecosystems, making them essential habitats for wildlife. If your workspace allows, organize a day to plant some trees. Not only are they beneficial to the environment, but they are also aesthetically pleasing. For those with limited outdoor space, there are always potted plants! After all, greenery in the office is said to boost productivity.

Pick Up Trash

No, picking up trash isn’t the most glamorous way to celebrate Earth Day. However, it does make a positive impact on your community. Organize time to go out into your local community to give a little TLC to overlooked areas, not just your immediate surrounding area. For those who want to be part of something bigger, join The Great Global Cleanup®.

Connect with Nature

The beauty found in the natural world is breathtaking. Unfortunately, we often don’t take time out of our busy schedules to appreciate it. So, whether your team is in-office or working remotely, encourage everyone to take time out for a walk. In fact, why not make a challenge out of it? For the month of April, see which of your team members can get the most steps in!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

It may seem obvious, but it never hurts to assess whether your team recycles correctly. It’s so easy to toss waste into the trash without a second thought. Instead, organize a team meeting to discuss how you can better reduce waste.

Go Paperless

Fact: As many as 17 trees are required to make one ton of paper. Printing a filing is a thing of the past. Meet with your team to start discussing the benefits of scanning and electronically managing your important documents. Besides creating a system that will be secure and easily accessible, trees will be spared!

As mentioned above, the Earth’s well-being shouldn’t be limited to one day. So be sure to meet with your team to discuss ways you can continue making positive contributions to the planet throughout the year.
