Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 106 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore has estimated actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only.
Total Cases & Active Cases
Total overall cases increased from 37,868 on Thursday, March 3rd to 37,950 on Friday, March 4th.
There are 275 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 5 cases since yesterday).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).
- 355,647 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+43 since yesterday)
- 341,663 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+147 since yesterday)
- 189,338 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+229 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 86.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 82.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 53.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths
The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 580. They say a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

The Health Unit 42 hospitalizations today (decrease of 5), and 6 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 1).
