16 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 16 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday, bringing the local total to 13,683.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,667 on Thursday March 25th to 13,683 on Friday March 26th and 226 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 10 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 5 cases are community acquired, and 1 case is still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 55 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (+4 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 53,522 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+3,688 since yesterday)
  • 12,074 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+2 since yesterday)
  • A total of 77,670 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,692 since yesterday)

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:

  • People 70 years of age and older
    • Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette announced Friday the Health Unit is now accepting booking from a new five year age bracket. She says people aged 70 or older can now book using the Health Unit’s system.

  • People aged 60 or older (AstraZeneca pharmacy pilot)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 13,056 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 19 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 401.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 17 hospitalizations today: 11 people in acute care (3 more today), and 6 people in the ICU (1 more today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
