1 New Death, 39 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 39 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 13,299.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,260 on Wednesday March 10th to 13,299 on Thursday March 11th and 281 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 7 cases are outbreak related, 13 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 cases are community-acquired, and 15 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 11,885 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+1,192 since yesterday)
  • 11,775 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+20 since yesterday)
  • A total of 35,435 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,232 since yesterday)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,623 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 31 resolved cases today.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 395. They say a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 37 hospitalizations today: 29 people in acute care (2 more today), and 8 people in the ICU (4 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

Leave Of Absence For Dr. Ahmed

The Health Unit announced Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health will be taking a two week leave of absence. In a statement the Health Unit said they will be receiving Medical Officer of Health support from other public health units during his absence.

The Health Unit declined to share any further details about the leave.
