4 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 Additional Death As Of Wednesday In Windsor Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 4 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 2,537. They say 2,371 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 2,533 on Tuesday September 1st to 2,537 on Wednesday September 2nd and 69 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.

The Health Unit says 2 cases are residents of a retirement home and 2 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases.

The Health Unit is reporting one additional death due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday bringing the local death toll to 73. Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says a resident of a retirement home in her 80s passed away due to COVID-19.

“My sincere condolences go out to her family at this time of grief,” said Dr. Ahmed.

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit says 19 people are hospitalized and 2 people are in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Twelve of the hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

New Beginnings retirement home in Leamington remains under outbreak with 6 staff cases and 21 resident cases (2 additional resident cases compared to yesterday).

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit says the following workplace is under outbreak (no changes compared to yesterday):

  • 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Tecumseh)

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
