Town of Essex Council approved the municipality’s budget in principle on Monday night with no increase to the municipality’s property tax rate and over $25 million in capital spending.
“Council and staff have worked hard on this budget to limit its impact on taxpayers while delivering the services, programs, and facilities that make our community great,” said Mayor Larry Snively. “We’ve had a good amount of growth in our community over the past few years and keeping tax rates low will continue to make our Town an attractive place to live and invest in.”
Budget highlights include $4.5 million to commence the Harrow and Essex Centre streetscaping projects, $1.7 million for road replacement and upgrades, including $50,000 for sidewalks, $2.7 million for the construction of a new Essex Fire & Rescue Station #2, $220,000 for improvements and construction of washrooms at the Essex Centre Splash Pad, $175,000 for mid roof replacement at the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre, $60,000 for the Official Plan Review and $65,500 to replace the rubber surface at the Colchester Park playground.
The budget will return to Council for formal adoption at the regular meeting on February 18th, 2020.
