Tecumseh officials want to remind recent flood victims of potential scam artists who may attempt to capitalize on their recent misfortune.
They say that although no confirmed reports have been received, it is prudent to ensure that any company offering to assist with cleanup and/or renovations be reputable.
In most cases, legitimate companies will not ask for monies up front, especially cash and should always provide estimates in writing.
The Ontario Provincial Police add that the elderly are usually those most frequently affected by this type of scam and should be particularly cautious.
