Windsor held the first Open Streets event in the city, where 8 kilometres of the road were blocked off from traffic from 9am until 1pm. This gave pedestrians, bicyclists, skate boarders and more a chance to enjoy the streets with festivities and activities without motorized vehicles being on the road.
8 “hubs” were set up across the 8 kilometer route, that went from Sandwich to Ford City. Each hub brought different activities and entertainment to be enjoyed, from live music, interactive activities, free snacks and treats, and local businesses selling their goods.
Over 100 cities in North America hold Open Streets events, with Windsor now becoming one of them. The next Open Streets Windsor is planned for Sunday, September 18th of this year.
