Demolition Coming Soon For Electa Hall

The fences are up around Electa Hall at the University of Windsor, as crews from Jones Groups prepares the building for demolition.

The student residence complex at the corner of University and Patricia was built in two phases. Phase I was constructed in 1957 and Phase II, known as the annex was built in 1962.

The original building is three floors tall and includes a basement and mechanical penthouse. The annex is five stories tall with a basement and penthouse that houses a now-closed lounge.

Both buildings are joined by a small building addition only at the basement and 1st floor.

The residence hall began as a women’s residence for Holy Names College, and was named after Sister Mary Electa, a noted educator of the time who became the first Dean of the College.

In 1950, Holy Names College was transferred to Assumption University, and later to the University of Windsor.

The University says that the building needed significant deferred maintenance work. The last students moved out of the building this past April.

Demolition is expected to be completed by October.
