Chestnut Park playground in Leamington has been selected out of 200 submissions as one of ten projects for the upcoming reality show, called “Giver”, produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment, which includes a rebuilt community playground.
The town says that the current play structure at Chestnut Park was installed in 1988 and has been identified as needing renewal. The intent of the “Giver” reality show is to engage local children and community volunteers to build playgrounds. From the park design and planning stage through the three day rebuild, community involvement is the focus of the show.
Sinking Ship Entertainment will provide $10,000 towards the project. The Municipality of Leamington will contribute $5000 and provide in kind support, such as the expertise of the public works staff. To enhance the overall outcome of the rebuild, additional sponsorships and donations are required. All donations go towards the purchase of materials and playground equipment for Chestnut Park.
“The Giver reality show is a real opportunity to profile Chestnut Park and encourage the local neighbourhood children and volunteers to be a part of rebuilding the playground. In addition, the financial support provided by Sinking Ship Entertainment and the local community sponsors will go a long way in revitalizing Chestnut Park”, said Ken Brown, Manager of Public Works.
