Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital today awarded Dr. Frank DeMarco the recipient of the 2nd Annual Dr. Percy Demers Physician Excellence Award.
In honour of the late Dr. Demers, who served at the hospital from 1960-2002, this award recognizes outstanding contributions to physician education, leadership, and patient care.
“Frank has a long and distinguished career in Windsor as a dedicated physician who demonstrates outstanding leadership and commitment to his patients,” said Dr. Gord Vail, HDGH Chief of Staff, who led a hospital panel tasked with deciding on a winner among many strong candidates submitted by staff, physician colleagues and patients.
Dr. DeMarco has been a physician in Windsor for more than 30 years. He is a longtime hospitalist – a specialist in the medical care of acutely ill hospitalized patients – and also runs a family practice on Walker Road. He has privileges to practice at both HDGH and Windsor Regional Hospital’s Metropolitan Campus, and is currently also an adjunct professor at the Schulich School of Medicine’s Windsor campus.
“Dr. DeMarco is passing on his extensive knowledge of medicine to our future doctors. It is a privilege to honour Frank’s dedication to his field with this award,” Vail said.
Dr. DeMarco received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1978 and completed an internship at Wayne State in Michigan in 1979. Among his career highlights, he is a past president of the Essex County Medical Society (1992) and a former clinical trial investigator.
