The Ministry of Community and Social Services has experienced technical difficulties processing the May 2013 payments for Ontario Works recipients. Several regions are affected by this situation, including Windsor-Essex.

The error will affect only Ontario Works clients who have made prior arrangements for the municipality to deduct some of their payment in order to pay bills such as utilities or rent. This one-time processing error caused the full amount of the Ontario Works payment to go to the social assistance client. Therefore, affected clients are responsible to pay their rent and/or utilities for the month of May from the payment they receive.

Clients who receive a monthly bus pass benefit may receive a separate cheque for $2.50. Clients can obtain their bus pass by using the cheque stub. Clients are also asked to please cash this cheque.

Despite the error, all payments are being made on time and no Ontario Works client will be short-changed, nor has the error resulted in any overpayments. The Ministry is working to address the problem.

Should affected individuals have any concerns, they are asked to contact their Caseworker directly. General inquiries can be made by calling 211.
