After an extensive study on how to calm traffic in South Windsor, the project has ended with a recommendation that “due to lack of support from local residents…the proposed traffic calming solution not be implemented”.
City Administrators studied the area of Dominion Boulevard between Norfolk and Cabana and have made a recommendation to add a new sidewalk to improve pedestrian safety. Other options were studied to slow traffic including a stop sign reversal and the implementation of electronic signs but Administrators have not recommended their implementation.
To address an issue of pedestrian safety, the City is however recommending the construction of a $16,000 sidewalk near Cabana and Dominion. Currently, the sidewalk switches sides midway down the block, forcing pedestrians to cross in the middle of traffic at a dangerous S-curve.
The new sidewalk will run from its current endpoint, along the east side of the road, until it reaches Roselawn.
