It’s the beginning of the end for the Former Grace Hospital buildings.
City officials say that this week, crews from Budget Environmental Disposal Incorporated will begin removing designated substances from the interior of the buildings, starting with the Brett Building at Oak and University. Once those areas are complete, work will begin on the main building. Demolition of each building will begin once the designated substances have been removed.
Work has already begun this week to remove existing debris piles at the site.
The City of Windsor says that they are working closely with the contractor, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Environment to ensure the work is done safely and in accordance with regulations.
The full demolition is expected to take about five months to complete.
