One firefighter has been taken to hospital and tenants of a unit of East Gate Estates are homeless after a fire ravaged a home on the city’s east side, shortly before 5pm Saturday.
Firefighters responded to the 1800 block of East Gate Estates to find a bright blaze burning on the second story of the home. The fire appeared to start on the second story and spread into the ceiling. A large glass sliding door on the home’s balcony was destroyed and windows were punctured to provide ventilation. Flames licked the house’s front exterior, damaging trim and areas of brick.
The blaze was extinguished in a little over a half hour. A fire Captain from Station Six was taken to hospital with injuries.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time, but a fire inspector has arrived on scene.
