Residents in the area of Peter Street and Chippawa reported hearing 8 or 9 gunshots just after 9pm Thursday evening.

Several police cars converged around the 3400 block of Peter in moments, including 2 tactical vehicles. Police spent about the next hour searching the area for the shooter and speaking with witnesses.

Nobody was harmed during the incident, but forensic officers and police detectives were sent to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.

At about 10pm, police officers had two males suspects in custody on South Street just north of Bloomfield. However, according to witnesses at the scene, the two men actually responsible for the shooting remain at large.

Officers on scene declined to comment. Police cannot release any information at this time as they are still investigating.

Some residents/witnesses were willing to comment, but wished to remained anonymous. One person stated that about 8 shots were fired at a residence. He believed that this was done as a scare tactic.

One person at the scene stated that nobody wanted to comment to the police or to anyone else because they feared for their lives.

Forensics officers placed numerical markers on a front lawn on Peter Street, close to where the shooting took place. Each marker was marked with a number between 1 and 8, each to identify the location of all 8 bullet casings that were found on the lawn.

This is the 3rd time in the past 11 months that a shooting has taken place in the vicinity of Chippawa and Peter. The last two shootings were drive by shootings, both which occurred in late September of 2009. Injuries in both those shootings were non-life threatening.

Police now believe they have the man responsible for the shooting in custody, but they are not releasing his name at this time.

The motive for the shooting is allegedly regarding a conflict between two families.

Below is a video recap of the last shooting that took place in Windsor’s west end:
