Windsor firefighters responded to “The Cave”, a Lebanese restaurant at 597 Wyandotte St East (at Aylmer), Sunday night at 11:30pm for reports of a fire. When firefighters gained access by breaching the front door, they discovered fire in the kitchen area.

Dense smoke could be seen pouring out of the building’s rooftop ventilation ducts and a crowd of around fifty onlookers gathered to watch.

Gasps were heard as one onlooker crossed yellow caution tape at attempted to lunge at a firefighter for reasons unknown. The man fell to the ground and was shortly taken aside by Windsor Police.

The cause of the fire is still unknown; windsoriteDOTca has not determined if anyone was in the restaurant at the time the fire started.
