The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is offering what they call a proven weight-loss program that gets results.

Windsor-Essex County residents can join a Registered Dietitian and learn how to change old habits, eat better, be more active, and lose weight and keep it off.

The classes run for ten consecutive weeks and cost $75 per person. This covers the cost of program materials, including a quality pedometer.

Losing Weight the Healthy Weigh is for people who meet the following criteria:

  • Are between the ages of 20 and 65 years old.
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 40 (BMI greater than 40 requires medical consent to participate).
  • Don’t have an existing heart condition (e.g. recent myocardial infarction, angina).
  • Don’t have diabetes mellitus.
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding a child nine months or younger.
  • Are able to walk without assistance for 15 continuous minutes.

The classes will take place on Thursdays starting on October 17th and running until to December 19th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit in the Essex Civic Centre located at  360 Fairview Avenue West.

People wishing to join can register online at www.wechealthunit.org or call the Health Unit at 519-258-2146 extension 3100.
