Work has begin on adding an additional 350 metres of riverfront trail linking downtown Windsor and Olde Walkerville.
The new multi-use extension will run from Moy Avenue, easterly to approximately the Hiram Walker facility.
When the extension is completed, it will include a turn-around loop at the eastern edge and a link to the existing trail along the Detroit River.
The land is owned by the City of Windsor and was previously used by Hiram Walker Distillery as a connection to the railroad.
“The area will be landscaped with trees and grass,” explained Mike Clement, Manager of Parks Development, “and it will provide enhanced access to the riverfront parks.”
The project is expected to be completed within two weeks, weather permitting.
