The City of Windsor is looking at moving ahead with the engineering needed to construct a pedestrian underpass under Riverside Drive West near the Art Gallery of Windsor.
City administration is recommending that Windsor City Council approve Landmark Engineers to carry out an Environmental Assessment for the proposed tunnel. A step necessary before any construction can happen.
The assessment will look at things such as the treatment of the entrances and exits, the location of the tunnel and the method of construction. It will also look into the conditions of the proposed site. They will also carry out public consultation, and when complete present a preferred design to City Council.
The maximum budget for this assessment is $102,000. City Council has budgeted 1.4 million for the total project.
City council will be asked to approve this step at their meeting on July 22nd.
Final design should be ready for February 2014 and construction could start in the spring of 2014.
