Town Of Essex Launches New Website

The Town of Essex has officially launched its newly designed website and YouTube page.

“This is an important day for the Town of Essex,” said Mayor Ron McDermott. “This website provides important information that residents need to know and visitors might be looking for. For example, it tells you where you’ll find a splash pad in Essex on a hot summer’s day or how to appear as a delegation at Council or how to enter the Essex Fun Fest parade.”

Town officials say that the new website took about six months to build and was a collaborative project involving Council, staff, and members of the public. eSolutions Group of Waterloo, the website design consultant, has assisted over 100 Ontario municipalities in redesigning their websites.

“From a communications perspective, this new version of essex.ca is much more accessible, informative and interactive,” said Communications Manager Laurie Brett.

The town also notes that with the new website they have met and exceeded the provincial accessibility standard for websites and has done so six months in advance of the January 1st, 2014 deadline. This means that everyone will be able to access the site regardless of ability or device. The site is tablet and mobile friendly and includes features that allow people who use screen readers to fully experience the content.

Residents can fill out forms online, submit events to the community calendar, subscribe to news and notices to stay informed, and access the Town’s social media sites like Facebook and YouTube directly from the homepage. Recorded Council meetings will be accessed from both the YouTube page and the Town’s website starting in September.
