How much do places matter to you? The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario has launched a new, interactive website for Ontario called This Place Matters.
This Place Matters allows users to suggest important buildings and locations under categories including “Places that Matter”, “Buildings at Risk”, “Demolition by Neglect”, “Special Places and Attractions” and “Environments at Risk”.
The website states:
This website has been set up to help us learn what buildings, places and environments are under threat, at risk of demolition, change beyond recogition or neglect. It is a sort of “tip line” letting us and the world know that “this place matters”.
The new site is in its infancy: so far there haven’t been any locations reported close to Windsor — the nearest is in London — but the site relies on user participation through a very simple submission form.
Windsor’s Broken City Lab ran a creative project in the spring called “Sites of Apology/Sites of Hope” that dealt with locations of significance in this area. International Metropolis regularly writes about heritage structures. And Windsor’s Heritage committee has hundreds of historically significant properties on a list.
Now, This Place Matters is a gateway to use technology to document different heritage, historical and architecturally significant structures among many other purposes.
Do you know a place that matters? Here’s the link to the submission form.
