No Sewer Repairs for Princess Avenue

The City of Windsor has released a report after a question was made by City Councillor Bill Marra regarding the repairing of sewers on Princess Avenue.

Back in the fall, residents between the 2300 and 2600 blocks of Princess Avenue presented a petition to the City asking for repairs of sewers due to flooding and backflow issues. City administrators prepared a report indicating that for a period of nine years there were no calls to the City related to basement flooding in the area, only two calls were made during 2010 and again in 2011 zero calls were made to the city regarding basement flooding.

The report additionally states that no permits are on record for the area from homeowners requesting the installation of backwater valves, sump pumps or foundation drain disconnections.

The report states that “these blocks of Princess Avenue are lower priority than other areas that have received more flooding complaints” and that the area is not identified as an area for sewer replacement in the City’s 5-year budget.

The City reminds homeowners that it is “very important” that calls are made to the City (via 311) so that they “can track where [basement flooding] is occurring in order to assist in determining priorities”.
