March Break comes around every year and every year it is a mad scramble to find activities to keep the kids entertained for the week! Check out our suggestions here on how to take some of the madness out of March and make it marvelous instead!
March is Maple Month and Essex Region Conservation Authority is celebrating with an expanded Maple Syrup Festival running over 3 weekends at 2 locations. Kickstart March Break at the second weekend, March 11 & 12 with Tasters’ Weekend! Sample baked goods, maple butter, maple sugar and more! Taste syrups and learn how they’re made PLUS a winter hike, horse drawn wagon rides and more! Close off March Break at the third weekend of Maple Fest for Makers’ Weekend: learn about the origins of maple syrup, how to tap your trees at home and make maple in the snow! Artisans market, Border City Barkers and the backyard maple make winner will be crowned. Add to you Maple Month experience by downloading the FREE Maple Trail App and you could win! Experience special maple-themed offerings from wineries, restaurants, shops and businesses as you travel between Maple Fest Sites ticketed events: John R Park Homestead and Holiday Beach Conservation Area.
Fort Malden National Historic Site is inviting kids ages 6-12 to “March Into March Break”. Each afternoon the drop off program will run from 1pm to 4pm with a special theme packed with activities that will keep participants busy and active with things like hands-on cooking in the 1840s cookhouse, scavenger hunts, playing period games and making crafts! Call 519-736-5416 to reserve your child’s spot!
Take advantage of our proximity to a Dark Sky Preserve and explore Point Pelee National Park after dark on Saturday March 18th. The park will be open until midnight for the best stargazing experience. Bring your binoculars or a telescope and let the kids stay up late as you see how many constellations you can spot! Visitors can pick up a seasonal star chart at the front gate upon arrival.
Let the kids get in tune with their creative side at SKETCH Clay + Pottery’s March Break Kids Camp. For ages 9-13, 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday. Participants will learn the pottery wheel, clay hand building, do a surf craft along with fun group games and activities. Refreshment and healthy snacks will be provided.
Spend some time with four-legged farm friends at Sunny Britches Acres! Open 10am to 3pm Wednesday March 15th to Saturday March 19th, bring the whole family out for a visit with baby chicks, twin baby goats, cows, an ostrich and so many more! Farm visits are $10 per person, kids 1 and under are free.

Not able to get away somewhere warm for March Break? Head to the warm tropical weather of Adventure Bay Family Water Park! Soak up the fun on the water slides, wave pool, lazy river and try your surfing skills in the FlowRider surf simulator. Adventure Bay Family Water Park will have extended hours for March Break and will be open noon to 4pm daily.
Some things slow down during March Break but not the Windsor Spitfires! Grab tickets for the whole family and watch the Spits take on the Saginaw Spirit on Wednesday March 15th at 7pm.
Sticking with the tropical theme here … Colasanti’s makes for a fun-filled day for the whole family. Start off with a visit to the petting zoo to great the animals, play a round of mini-golf and take part in the daily planting and crafting activities taking place all week long. Don’t forget to fuel up with peach juice and fresh donuts! Activity sessions are an additional fee and tickets can be purchased in advance, 3 sessions available per day.
The Chimczuk Museum is always a great place to explore with permanent exhibits on the history of the Windsor area, the Original People’s Culture and Legacy and a state-of-the-art Children’s Gallery and Learning Space with hands-on opportunities.
