Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 207 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore has estimated actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Of the 207 new high risk cases:

  • 60 were reported on March 5th
  • 78 were reported on March 6th
  • 69 were reported on March 7th

Total overall cases increased from 37,950 on Friday, March 4th to 38,152 on Monday, March 7th.

There are 256 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 19 cases since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 355,692 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+45 since Friday)
  • 341,856 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+193 since Friday)
  • 189,646 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+308 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 82.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 53.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 581. They say a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit 29 hospitalizations today (decrease of 13), and 4 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (decrease of 2).
