1 New Case Of COVID-19, 2 Outbreaks Ended In Windsor Essex As Of Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed one new case of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 2,450. They say 2,276 people locally have recovered.
Cases increased from 2,449 on Tuesday August 18th to 2,450 on Wednesday August 19th and 92 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.
The Health Unit says Wednesday’s one new case was acquired through community spread.
There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday and the local death toll stands at 71.
As of Wednesday, the Health Unit lists 7 people as hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex, and 6 of those hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.
Two retirement homes remain under outbreak: Shoreview at Riverside (Windsor – 4 staff cases), and New Beginnings (Leamington – 1 staff case, 4 resident cases).
Workplace Outbreaks
As of Tuesday, the Health Unit listed the following workplaces under outbreak:
- 3 farms (1 in Kingsville and 2 in Leamington)
- 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Windsor)
As of Wednesday, the Health Unit says the following workplaces are under outbreak (2 less compared to yesterday):
- 2 farms in Leamington
A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
