Local Expert Blog: A Throne Of Your Own

With social distancing measures in full effect, many of us have been staying indoors to keep ourselves and our community safe. However, there are some of us supporting older parents or grandparents during these difficult times by going grocery shopping, filling prescriptions or maintaining yards. In some cases, for older family members who live on their own, we just want to make sure they are okay.

When it comes to using the washroom while running errands for the better part of the day combined with the drop off and brief chat (from a safe distance, of course), you’ll notice you don’t have many options.

One solution for those of us who check in on vulnerable family members is renting a long-term portable toilet.

Now you can, for instance, visit grandma without ever having to enter her home.

The benefits of personal-use toilets.

Unless you are a construction worker, the only time many of us encounter portable toilets are when we attend festivals, sporting events, or public parks, and these toilets experience high traffic and a lot of use. Not to mention, they are often seen as a last resort.

On the other hand, with a personal-use portable toilet situated just outside the residence of your choice, that high traffic and use is limited to just you, your family, or supportive friends. Really, whomever you allow to use it.

Bonus Tip: Since this isn’t being rented for public use, be sure to ask the company if the unit comes with a lock. Often, it will come at an extra cost, but it will allow you to keep strangers from using your unit.

Who cleans the portable toilet?

With any long-term rental, toilets are given a thorough cleaning once a week and includes:

  • Properly removing waste from the holding tank.
  • Unit is sprayed down with disinfectant.
  • The walls, floor, and major points of contact inside the unit are scrubbed.
  • Restock supplies like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, soap, and paper towels (if applicable).

All of these tasks will be done on-site by trained team members.

It is important to remember that with many portable toilet rentals, companies will offer extra cleanings at additional cost. If you find that once a week is not enough due to high traffic, don’t be afraid to reach out to the company. Whenever renting portable toilets, especially if you are unfamiliar with the process, don’t be afraid to ask what is included.
