Mackenzie Hall, Windsor’s former jail and current culture and arts hub in Sandwich Town is undergoing preventative repairs.
City Council allocated $95,000 for roof repairs which are currently underway, and an additional $237,000 has been earmarked for masonry repairs to the 156-year old building.
In 2003 a study on the building revealed a number of inadequacies with past maintenance efforts. Repairs and repainting of wood window sills were not successfully completed because of poorly fitting storm windows and uncontrolled high interior humidity.
Between now and 2016, over $1.8 million dollars in repairs are necessary to maintain Mackenzie Hall.
