The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County has kicked off ‘Harmony for the Holidays’, a campaign to provide cards and letters to service men and women spending the holiday season away from their loved ones.
The Council is inviting everyone to take part in the week-long initiative, and send cards or letters with personal messages.
“Our newcomer community is so grateful for all that Canada does and is and has to offer that they asked for ways to express their appreciation”, explained MCC Executive Director Kathleen Thomas, “the holiday season is about family and encouragement, and we thought it would be a great time to offer thanks and support as well.”
Staff and clients from both the Downtown and East End offices have already submitted cards, with many more being created as part of activities this week.
“This is a project that both confirms and confounds”, offered Thomas, “it reinforces the understanding of the love and gratitude that newcomers have for their communities and their new country. The individuals and families that now call Windsor-Essex home are proud to recognize the efforts of our service men and women, and are excited to extend seasons’ greetings, encouragement, and support. They want to ensure Harmony for the Holidays for everyone.”
Both cards and letters are accepted and must be in a sealed envelope addressed to “Any Canadian Armed Forces Member”.
No postage is necessary. Items will be collected until Friday, November 30th during regular business hours; 8:30am to 5:30pm, at both the Downtown Office, 245 Janette Avenue, and the East End Office, 7651 Tecumseh Road East.
