With summer around the corner, a Canadian mainstay is starting early by getting kids to camp.
Taking place on Wednesday, June 5th, Tim Hortons annual Camp Day is back. With all brewed coffee proceeds benefiting the Tim Hortons Foundation, sales will help a good cause: Ultimately, the goal is to send kids 12-16-years-old from low income homes to their camps for free.
Not relying solely on coffee however, other activities are planned for stores across the country.
One of many is the restaurant located at 3136 Jefferson Boulevard, which will have several ways for the community to get involved. Reaching out to customers, there’s something for everyone young and old. Activities scheduled throughout the day include raffle items sponsored by local businesses, a bake sale, guessing game to win a jar of candy and tossing game along with colouring pages for kids.
A barbecue will also be set up outdoors with police and a fire truck in the afternoon. Getting more personal, those ordering donuts can even have something written on them to help benefit camp day while creating a unique treat for someone in the process.
For those not interested in brewed coffee or personalized donuts though, there are other ways to donate. For $2, all Tim Hortons are currently selling limited edition bracelets in red, blue, green and orange. Each location also has coin boxes where change is collected and customers can round up the price of their orders, asking that the difference be donated — these two options are available throughout the year.
Local sports fans can also see the head coaching team of the Windsor Spitfires at 6605 Tecumseh Road East from 9-11 a.m. Several radio stations will also be on hand throughout the day.
Last year, camp day raised over $13.1 million for Tim Hortons Foundation camps. In 2019, the company hopes for the same to help kids change their stories: According to the foundation’s website, their seven locations provide more than 20,000 camp experiences annually. Having sent over 275,000 youths to camp in the past 45 years, these trips take place in summer and winter.
Canadian destinations include Tim Horton Memorial Camp in Parry Sound, Ontario, Tim Horton Children’s Camp in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Tim Horton Children’s Ranch in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Camp Des Voyageurs Tim Horton in Quyon, Quebec. Tim Horton Onondaga Farms in St. George, Ontario and Tim Horton Camp Whiteshell in Pinawa, Manitoba.
Those not visiting a Tim Hortons on Wednesday can donate online — both one-time and monthly options are available.
