Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex received a $723,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation Grow grant to fund the expansion of their kitchen and appliance recycling initiative.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation previously funded a three-year pilot program which resulted in 1091.91 tons of goods diverted from landfill.

This recent grant will enable the Windsor-Essex ReStores to scale up their successful salvage programs and expand to provide a proven recycling option to homes and businesses across Essex County.

Thirty-two partner businesses and over 40,000 donors and customers interested in reducing their environmental footprint will have access to the ReStores kitchen removal, appliance pick-up, and recycling service.

“Businesses and community members across the region are working hard to reduce their ecological footprint,” said Fiona Coughlin, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex. “This funding allows us to support our neighbours who care deeply about the environment, while at the same time raising funds to provide affordable housing in our community. It’s a win-win for Windsor-Essex.”
