Lakeshore Council honoured Lakeshore Fire Chief, Don Williamson Tuesday evening with the presentation of the Governor General’s fire exemplary service medal.
Williamson, whose fire career began in 1986, joined Lakeshore in 2003 as the first full-time Deputy Chief and was promoted to Fire Chief in 2005. Williamson has extensive educational background with professional designations recognized by both the Ontario and Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs including; Certified Municipal Manager, Fire Service Executive, Fire Suppression Professional, Emergency Management Professional and Fire Officer. He also holds National Fire Protection Association recognition as a certified fire fighter, fire service training officer, fire inspector, fire investigator and public information officer.
In total Williamson has 30 years of Fire Service leading a team of very experienced residents who are fire fighters.
Lakeshore’s Fire Department, totaling 91 firefighters, has 39 firefighters with over 20 years of experience, including one firefighter with over 45 years’ experience. Fire administration’s staff include the Assistant Deputy Chief who has over 25 years and the Deputy Chief who has over 35 years’ experience.
