The clean up from the August 24th tornado in Windsor will end up costing the city an estimated $177,458.

Expenses range from emergency response, clean-up, damage assessment and inspections, and provision of emergency shelter.

One of the biggest expenses was the damage sustained to the traffic sign structure on the EC Row Expressway at Central Avenue.  Full repairs could cost between $45,000 and $55,000.

Other costs included $13,085 for Fire & Rescue, $12,734 for Windsor Police, $2,118 for the city planning and building department, $10,366 from public works, $27,211 from traffic engineering, $2,998 from environmental Services, $250 for assistance by employment and social services and $153 for communication purposes.

$25,000 is being estimated as the cost of contracted services for tree removal and replanting.

City administration says that they gathered information on the Province of Ontario’s Disaster Recovery Assistance Program to determine if the city qualified for relief funding from the Province, but due to the relatively modest costs experienced by the city, it has been determined that this program will not apply and disaster relief funding will not be forthcoming.
