Catholic School Board Seeks Court Injunction To Stop Delays At Picket Lines

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has filed an application for a court injunction which according to Communications Coordinator for the board Stephen Fields would “effectively prevent strikers from delaying teachers for an unreasonable amount of time at their picket lines.”

“While we respect the right of organized workers to go out on strike and hold information pickets we feel that teachers have been delayed unnecessarily at those lines, making it extremely difficult for them to fulfill their obligations under the Education Act, which clearly stipulate that they must be in their classrooms 15 minutes before the start of class time,” said Fields.

Fields goes onto say that “since this strike began, parents have been asking what we are doing to make sure their children are receiving their education, and now we are taking legal steps to ensure that our students receive the education to which they are entitled under the Education Act.”

The boards 370 custodians, maintenance workers, secretaries, campus ministers, and information technology employees have been on strike for almost two weeks.
