The House of Sophrosyne has received a $20,000 contribution to its Building for Recovery campaign from The W. Garfield Weston Foundation.

The $20,000 donation will go to help the House of Sophrosyne with its relocation and renovation to the former St. Alexander Elementary School at 5305 Adstoll in east Windsor. The planned expansion will shorten wait times for women living with an addiction, increase bedded services and increase capacity for day and evening programs, additional counseling, family rooms to accommodate mothers and their children, and childcare.

“We are pleased to see that our efforts are being recognized outside of Windsor,” says Karen Waddell, Executive Director. “The House of Sophrosyne, operating in Windsor since 1978, is a provincial leader in providing patient-centered care to women fighting addiction. The planned state-of-the-art facility will provide expanded programs to women throughout the province who need these specialized services.”

The Building for Recovery capital campaign has to date received $734,000 in donations and pledges. The Board has received an additional commitment from the LHIN to cover the increased operating costs in the new facility, leaving “one-time” capital renovations as the focus of the campaign.

“I was delighted to learn of the innovative and helpful programs that the House of Sophrosyne provides the women in the Windsor area. This important work was introduced to us by Marylynn Gaw, a caseworker at the House of Sophrosyne, and we are pleased to support this expansion,” says Dalglish.

The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, based out of Toronto, was first established in the 1950s by Willard Garfield Weston and his wife Reta, with a donation of shares from the family company, George Weston Limited.
