Windsor City Council has voted to hire a person dedicated to sport tourism.
This new position would operate out of the mayor’s office and have a salary of $120,000.
The person will be responsible for submitting bids, assisting with hosting and coordinating with City departments and divisions once bids are successful, maintaining a database of volunteers, assessing economic benefits, and developing/working with the sports marketing strategy.
Not all City Councillors felt the need for this job to be created. Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk felt the money could be better used to repair sports facilities that city residents use, such as basketball courts in Forest Glade.
The position was approved with a vote of seven to four.
The success will be reviewed in three years.
