The Herb Gray Parkway is on track to open next summer.
Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca said Friday that significant progress has been made on the Parkway and the project is just months away from structural completion.
Eight of the nine municipal roads that cross the Parkway have opened, plus six new bridges and six tunnel tops are in place. The Minister said all four legs of the multi-lane roundabout recently opened and two-thirds of the permanent Highway 3 portion of the Parkway are open.
“I thank the residents of Windsor-Essex County for their patience during construction,” Del Duca said. “I also thank the local workforce that is helping to build the Parkway, creating a unique transportation solution the community will be proud of.”
In total, 1483 girders were installed on the Parkway and crews excavated 3.9 million cubic metres of earth.
At peak times, up to 1,200 labourers, technicians, designers and other staff are working on the Parkway each day.
