Leamington Nurse Wins Community Service Award

Eva Lewis, day surgery RPN and 43 year veteran nurse at Leamington District Memorial Hospital received the Lois A. Fairley Community Service Award Wednesday.

The award is given to a nurse in Windsor-Essex area in recognition for the care and compassion to patients, and contributions to the field of nursing.

Eva began her career at LDMH in 1971. She has worked in all areas within the hospital from the Emergency Department to Obstetrics and now in Day Surgery. Eva’s career has been so rewarding that she explains, “I’m so proud to be part of the nursing profession. Every day I take pride in what I do and value every day with our patients.” She goes on to say with emotion brimming over from her eyes, “I have had the privilege to nurse patients from their very first breath and held their hand as they took their last.” When asked what it means to receive the Lois A. Fairley Community Service Award, Eva first wanted to thank the community members for taking the time to do the work to nominate her and said, “receiving this award confirms to me this is where I should be in my life.”

Community members, who nominate a nurse for the annual Lois A. Fairley award, were asked to submit a story of 500 words or less that describes the how a nurse impacted their life or changed the life of a client/family. This is the seventh year this award had been bewstowed upon a deserving Nurse.
