Original Windsor Viral Video Maker Releases New Song About Windsor

Music videos about Windsor are all the rage lately, but Jarrett Sorko is no stranger to online fame.

Sorko is best known for his 2011 YouTube hit “Yo, I’m from Windsor Dude”, which attracted 134,000 hits to date and hilariously explored what life was like for Windsorites at the time.

Now the entertainer who describes his work at “self-deprecating comedic rap type music” is back with a video called “519” to celebrate the original video’s third anniversary.

“519” features such lyrics as “riding e-bikes down Huron Line”, “the pollution’s bad [and] makes the sunset pretty” and talks about well-known downtown-dweller Feather Hat Man.

Sorko’s not afraid of haters either. One punchy lyric says “if you don’t like Sorko, make fun of me, it’s Canada, I get my feelings checked for free” and shows a shot of a local hospital.

Sorko says he spent the past three years learning a lot about music, is releasing a 5 song EP entitled “Jarrett Sorko For Mayor” and needs the public’s help to raise funds for it on IndieGoGo:

I’m an artist from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. 3 years ago I made a song about my hometown that went viral online. The song was completely by accident. I had just purchased some home studio equipment that I was trying to learn to use and made the song while still in the learning process. I loved what the song inspired but I didn’t know how to make it sound the way I wanted… So I disappeared off of the internet for a few years to learn how. I spent the last 3 years working on my writing and musical abilities so that my next release would be able to be articulated exactly how I want it. After many rough drafts and demos I was finally able to create a cool EP that is funny but will also challenge you intellectually as you listen.

The EP is called “Jarrett Sorko For Mayor” and it is a whole new genre. My best description would be self-deprecating comedic rap word play kinda music. It encompasses the type of humour that I so much love mixed with the music that’s inspired me as a musician. All 5 songs are originals and were brought to life thanks to the help of my talented producer Rob Maslanka and Dynamic North Audio. Together we worked hard to bring you a whole new experience.

I’m currently in my starving artist phase of life, and production on music and videos is unfortunately expensive. With the amount of hours dedicated to creating this EP and after production and recording costs it will set me a pretty substantial amount back in debt. That’s why I would love your help to make sure this EP isn’t the death of me. If I could even cover basic costs for the project and be able to share it with all of you I would be forever grateful.
