A request for an all way stop at the intersection of Bruce Avenue and Caroline Street is not being recommended by city administration.
On July 23rd, 2013 the city’s Traffic Engineering department was asked by council to report back on how many accidents have occurred at this intersection and of an all ways top was warranted.
Bruce Avenue is a northbound one way street and Caroline is a two way street which has stop signs. Administration reports that as of the 2012 road safety report this intersection was ranked 170th highest unsignalized intersection based on accidents.
Since 2012 there have been six accidents at this corner with all vehicles proceeded off of Caroline Street, which has the stop sign, and into the intersection to be hit by a north bound vehicle on Bruce Avenue.
Administration reports that an all way stop sign is not warranted at this intersection, but recommended other measures to improve safety. They recommend that increasing the size of the no parking zones at the intersection to provide better corner clearance, as well as work with property owners to remove or trim back shrubs and hedges that are within the right of way and block sight lines.
