Hello time traveller!!

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is issuing a warning to travelers and anyone who may have been exposed to measles

They say people who flew on the following flights and went to the following locations could have been exposed to the infection:

  • Flight Lufthansa LH1661 from Timisoara Traian Vuia International Airport (TSR/LRTR), Romania, to Munich Airport (MU), Germany, on January 11, 2024, Departure time 6:14 AM (EET), Arrival time 6:22 AM (CET).
  • Flight Air Canada LH6790 from Munich Airport (MU), Germany, to Pearson International Airport (YYX), Canada, on January 11, 2024, Departure time 12:37 PM (CET), Arrival time 3:02 PM (EST).
  • Highway 401 westbound ONroute location West Lorne on January 11, 2024, from approximately 8:30 PM to 10:40 PM (EST)
  • A&R Medical Centre located at 1800 Tecumseh West in Windsor on January 15, 2024, from approximately 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM (EST).

The Health Unit is reminding those who may have been exposed to the infection to monitor for symptoms of measles that may appear 7 to 21 days after exposure. They say symptoms can include a fever, runny nose, cough, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. A red rash appears on the face 3 to 7 days after the start of the above symptoms. The rash may start from the face and progress down the body. If you develop these symptoms, contact your health care provider.

They say the measles virus spreads easily in the air when an infected person coughs, talks, or sneezes, and then another person breathes in the virus particles in the air even up to 2 hours after the person with the infection has left a closed space. It can also be spread by direct contact with the secretions from the infected person’s mouth or nose.

The Health Unit says anyone who has not had measles or has not been vaccinated against measles can become sick.

They say infants less than 12 months of age, pregnant people and immune-compromised individuals who have been exposed to measles should consult with their health care provider for individual medical advice.
