On Thursday, the Windsor Essex Rainbow Alliance showed off their first completed community project.

Six rainbow picnic tables in Lanspeary Park, off Ottawa Street, were recently installed and are displayed in the order of the colours of the rainbow flag.

“The Windsor Essex Rainbow Alliance is grateful to all of our partners in this effort to create a social space where all are welcome to gather and that recognizes that the 2SLGBTQIA+ community has a place at the table,” says Walter Cassidy, Chair of Windsor Essex Rainbow Alliance.

This community project is supported by the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative in partnership with the Government of Canada, WindsorEssex Community Foundation, Windsor Pride Community, Rotary Clubs in Windsor and the City of Windsor.

“The Canada Healthy Communities Initiative, delivered locally in partnership with the WindsorEssex Community Foundation, is supporting hard-working organizations building more inclusive communities across Canada. Investments like the one unveiled today at Lanspeary Park are vital to strengthening Windsor-Essex and ensuring we are creating safe community spaces for all residents to enjoy,” shared MP Irek Kusmierczyk, Member of Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh.

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation was able to amplify this funding with additional investment in honour of their 40th Anniversary.

“This year, we are investing in the community to create projects that will invest in lasting change, reflect who we are as the people of Windsor and Essex County, value our sense of place and culture, and honour both our local history and our future as it unfolds,” says Lisa Kolody, Executive Director of the WindsorEssex Community Foundation (WECF). “We are privileged to be celebrating our 40th Anniversary with phenomenal community partners like WERA and Rotary, and proud to have been a part of this project.”
