Feeding Windsor Essex will open a Leamington drop-in centre in the new year as a pilot project through their outreach program Street Angels.
The drop-in, located at 58 Erie Street South, will be open seven days a week and accessible by anyone ages 16 years and over in search of a warm, safe place to go between 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
The pilot project will serve as a way to gather data on service users to implement more permanent programming that addresses the needs of vulnerable locals.
The Feeding Windsor Essex team is hoping to offer food, resources, and supplies to those in need at the drop-in centre in addition to a warm place to gather and connect.
The organization has started a Go Fund Me to raise funds for the project. For donors who prefer to donate via other methods, they are accepting donations via cash, cheque, or e-transfer as well.
“It’s by the community for the community,” says Merissa Mills, Director of Outreach Services, “We are looking for local volunteers to help out at the centre.” Interested parties can inquire about volunteering by emailing [email protected] or by calling 519-997-1556.
