The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing approximately 600 employees of the Greater Essex County District School Board, will be in a legal strike position as of Friday, November 3rd, 2022.
The includes Secretaries, Clerks, Custodians, Maintenance, Courier, Information Technology Technicians, and Media Services staff.
On Monday, the Ontario Government introduced legislation to establish a four-year collective agreement for Ontario’s 55,000 education workers, including the 600 in Windsor-Essex.
The union responded by saying they will hold a province-wide day of protest on Friday.
In an update on their website Monday afternoon, the Greater Essex County District School Board said that their schools would be open on Friday, November 4th.
The Catholic Board has not released an update.
